Hypertension is the leading cause of death, premature morbidity, and disability-adjusted life years worldwide and a primary risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD), cerebrovascular disease (CeVD), heart failure (HF), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and dementia.

The aim of antihypertensive therapy is to maximally reduce cardiovascular risk without compromising quality of life.  Antihypertensive drugs are prescribed mainly to reduce the morbidity and mortality caused by hypertension and its complications. Many time, patients require more than one drug for effective control of hypertension. Various classes of antihypertensive drugs like diuretics, inhibitors of the renin-angiotensin system, calcium channel blockers (CCB) and beta blockers (BB) have been shown to reduce complications of hypertension and may be used for initial drug therapy.

During this webinar with Dr Talar Ahmad we will clarify the pathophysiology of hypertension, the causes of hypertension and hypertension categories, the emphasis of accurate blood pressure measurement, the US and European guidelines - classification and management and Rational pharmacotherapy of hypertension as a cardeovascular disease.
