We invite physicians, clinical pharmacists and pharmacists to Obesity, overweight and risk for cardiovascular disease and mortality in young women webinar.

As the prevalence of obesity continues to grow worldwide, the health and financial burden of obesity-related comorbidities grows too. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is clearly associated with increased adiposity. Importantly, women are at higher risk of CVD when obese and insulin resistant, in particular at higher risk of developing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and ischemic heart disease. Increased aldosterone and mineralocorticoid receptor activation, aberrant estrogenic signaling and elevated levels of androgens are among some of the proposed mechanisms explaining the heightened CVD risk.

Overweight, obesity and severe obesity rates have increased markedly in recent decades, particularly in the young. A high BMI is associated with several adverse cardiovascular and metabolic effects, more so among younger persons, only a few studies having quantified the risk for early cardiovascular disease (CVD). With the current increase in overweight, obesity and severe obesity in young women leading to an unprecedented number of CVD at a young age.

During this webinar with Dr Talar Ahmad we will quantify the potential consequences of overweight and obesity – in particular, severe obesity – on the development of early CVD, CVD mortality in young women.
