We invite physicians, clinical pharmacists and pharmacists to the Obesity, part 2 : the potential risk factor contributing to clinical manifestations of COVID 19 webinar.

Obesity is a potential risk factor contributing to clinical manifestations of COVID-19 it has reached epidemic proportions in the much of the developed world, resulting in significant morbidity. Several of these obesity-related morbidities have been linked to a higher risk of death from coronavirus infection in 2019 (COVID-19).

Besides advanced age and the presence of numerous comorbidities as most important contributors to an elevated risk of severe disease and deadly outcome from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease (COVID-19), there is now emerging evidence that overweight and obesity predispose to severe symptoms and negative prognosis. Surprisingly, the severity of COVID-19 appears to rise with increasing body mass index (BMI). The association between COVID-19 outcomes and overweight/obesity has biological and physiological plausibility.

During this webinar with Dr Talar Ahmad we will explain: the genomic structure of SARS-CoV-2, mechanisms of virus entry, the life- cycle- of a coronavirus, the role of ACE2 in COVID-19 pathophysiology, including factors influencing ACE2 expression and activity in relation to COVID-19 severity.

In addition, we will discuss the relevant pathological changes resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Obesity and other comorbidities will be also explained.

Obesity as the risk factor for severe COVID-19 in accompanied with other comorbidities.
