Webinar Talk: Shifting Practice: From Dispensing Pills to Providing Patient-Centered Care

Time & date: 07 October 2020. 15:00 GMT+4

Webinar overview:

Shifting Practice:
From Dispensing Pills to Providing Patient-Centered Care

The practice of pharmacy has been in a state of evolution and change throughout the past few
decades in all the world. The increase of the number of new medications and as a result an
accompanying increase in the problems associated with medicines, the huge cost of medical
care, and a demanding health care environment forced pharmacists and pharmacy leaders,
academics, and researchers to look for new roles for the pharmacist in this turbulent world we
are part of. However, despite the obvious need for a ‘new’ pharmacy practitioner, a significant
number of pharmacists still embrace a product-centered approach in their daily practice.
Community pharmacy, in particular, suffers the most of this state of stagnation.

Goals of this webinar are:

By the end of this lectures, the participants will be able to:

  • Provide a critical assessment to the current pharmacy practice in our region
  • Discuss the need for change in practice
  • Explain the meaning of patient centered care
  • Provide a formula for ‘dispensing’ that borrows from the principles of patient-centered practice

Target audience:

  • Retail pharmacists,
  • Pharmacists, Pharmacy heads,
  • Pharmacy managers.
  • Clinical pharmacists

Learning objects:

In this presentation Dr. Nadir Kheir will discuss issues related to the realities of pharmacy practice, with emphasis on community pharmacy, and will attempt to introduce a simplified patient-centered approach in the day to day community pharmacy practice that would allow the pharmacist to
deliver a level of care that brings the patient in the center, for a change.
