Uncontrolled asthma is associated with increased risk of exacerbations, leading to avoidable hospitalization and death. A substantial proportion of asthma patients have poor asthma control due to poor adherence to asthma management plans, and healthcare professionals bear responsibility in this unfortunate outcome. Patient-centered education on asthma self-management is paramount in preventing adverse outcomes, and designing asthma action plans or and with the participation of patients play crucial role in improving asthma care.

During this webinar with Dr Nadir Kheir we will discuss the definition of asthma and explain how it is diagnosed, identify the goals of asthma therapy, and how these are measured, discuss important patient and practitioner-related reasons for the lack of asthma control and how these could be addressed and explain the principles of asthma care planning, and develop an asthma action plans supported with patient education and follow-up.
